Micro-Grants for Adirondack Farmers

Micro-Grants for Adirondack Farms

Local farms feed us healthy food, lower the carbon footprint of the region, protect open space, attract tourists, and bring young people and families to the Adirondacks. Our region’s farms are important businesses, supporting the communities, and hamlets that are an integral element of the unique character, history, ecological integrity and future of the Adirondack Park.

The Micro-Grants for Adirondack Farmers program provides funding to Adirondack farmers and value-added producers to implement environmentally beneficial and sustainable projects. With founding support from the Klipper Family Fund of the Open Space Institute and subsequent contributions from generous individuals and foundations, the grant program supports and promotes sustainable agriculture in the Adirondack Park.

The Adirondack Council and Essex Farm Institute are seeking grant proposals for up to $5,000 from Adirondack farmers and value-added producers for projects that will enhance the environmental benefits their businesses provide.  Project areas can include, but are not limited to, soil management, water quality improvements, energy conservation and emissions reductions.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Completed application, including a detailed project budget
  • Project proposal aligns with and fulfills the program’s purpose
  • Farm/business is operated within the Adirondack Park

Please note that a panel of Adirondack Council and Essex Farm Institute staff, board members and affiliates will review applications and select recipients.
