DESCRIPTION:

Who we are:
For nearly 50 years, the Adirondack Council has been the largest environmental advocacy group working solely to protect the ecological integrity and wild character of the six-million-acre Adirondack Park and broader North Country region. Based in Elizabethtown, NY (30 miles east of Lake Placid), the Council champions an Adirondack Park that seamlessly integrates private and public lands, is renowned for its clean water, air and globally significant wilderness areas, is surrounded by working farms and forests, and supports safe, accessible, and vibrant local communities. To protect the Adirondacks, the Council uses the best science to guide regional decision making and a deep knowledge of the political landscape in Albany and the North Country to educate, inform, and motivate the public and those who make public policy. The Council believes wild places are a powerful connector for visitors and residents alike and help make the iconic Park a national treasure, now and for future generations.

The Council sponsors interns to help develop the next generation of conservation professionals. The goals for the Clarence Petty Communications Intern include helping advance the Council’s mission, vision, values, and conservation priorities while serving the state’s largest environmental advocacy organization dedicated to the protection of the Adirondack Park.

What we hope to achieve as a team:
With your help, the Adirondack Council will build a content library including digital images, video and oral histories to support our 50th anniversary celebration in 2025. This is an exciting opportunity to hear first-hand how strong partnerships, collaboration with elected and appointed government officials, and citizen participation help fuel advocacy benefitting the environment and communities of the Adirondack Park. Through creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit, and with guidance from communications leads, you will help bring Adirondack Council storytellers to life with a forward-spin, considering how our past has prepared the Council for the next 50 years.

Due to the nature of this work, some travel will be required, and a significant amount of time will be spent outside of the office interacting with a wide range of people. We are looking for someone creative and disciplined to help develop the stories that will be told in 2025 to celebrate 50 years of Adirondack conservation and advocacy.
