Global climate change poses a serious threat to the Adirondack Park.
- Changing weather patterns will affect the quality and quantity of Adirondack Park waters.
- Warming temperatures are already changing the Park's ecosystems, threatening the survival of some native wildlife and plant species. Ticks and diseases harmful to wildlife are proliferating.
- Warming also threatens the Park’s communities and culture. Droughts and flooding threaten local farms and recreation-based businesses.
- The winter season is becoming milder and shorter, threatening the habitats wildlife depend on. A lack of snowfall could be catastrophic for Adirondack towns that rely on thrive on winter snow sport tourism.
I support the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation vigorously implementing the new Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, the most ambitious climate legislation in the country. The future of water, wildlife and winter in the Adirondack Park depends on all of us. We must protect this national treasure.
