The Black Woods is Required Reading
Amy Godine’s recent book The Black Woods take a deeper-than-usual look at the historical role race played in the Adirondacks, long before there was an Adirondack Park. This book goes beyond John Brown and looks at the other individuals who worked to make Black suffrage a reality in New York. This book is required reading for those who believe that the Adirondacks belong to all New Yorkers, and want to ensure a more welcoming Adirondack Park.

Micro-grants in Action
Our 2023 Clarence Petty Farm Intern, Martha DePoy, visited numerous Adirondack farms and producers to see how the Essex Farm Institute’s (EFI) Micro-grants are doing. EFI provides grants to Adirondack farmers to help them improve efficiency and lower their environmental impact. This is one of the many ways that EFI, which is a program of the Adirondack Council, supports our local food network and communities.
