Urge Governor Cuomo to Sign Invasive Species Bill into Law

Urge Governor Cuomo to Sign Aquatic Invasive Species Bill into Law

Please send an email today!

Thanks to you and other advocates, the New York State Legislature passed new legislation that will protect Adirondack waters from harmful invasive species. This was a major victory. But we need your help again to make sure Governor Cuomo signs this bill into law.

This legislation requires that all motorized watercraft get a certification indicating that they are free of aquatic invasive species before they are launched in Adirondack waters. Once an aquatic invasive species enters an Adirondack waterbody, it is nearly impossible and very costly to eradicate, so prevention is critical. This strengthened legislation will ensure that current and future generations enjoy pristine Adirondack waters.

It’s now in the Governor’s hands. Please email today and tell him:

  • The ecology and economy of the Adirondacks depend on clean and healthy water, so we need to stop the spread of harmful aquatic invasive species.
  • Please sign into law the Aquatic Invasive Species Transport Bill (S.7010-c/A.7735-a), which will require motorized watercraft to be certified as free of aquatic invasive species before launching into Adirondack waters.
  • This strengthened legislation establishes an inexpensive and simple process to ensure that current and future generations enjoy pristine Adirondack waters.
