Action Alert - Boreas Post APA - Feb 2018

Help Cross the Finish Line for Adirondack Wilderness!
Please send a letter today

We’re almost there!

Last week, the Adirondack Park Agency (APA) Board of Commissioners voted to add 25,000 acres of Forest Preserve lands to the High Peaks Wilderness, including the Boreas Ponds in the heart of the Adirondack Park.

By joining these additional parcels with the Dix Wilderness, the High Peaks Wilderness will expand to over 270,000 acres.

There is one final step to protecting the Boreas Ponds and other sensitive parcels as motor-free Wilderness.  The Governor needs to approve the APA’s recommendation.

Please write the Governor today. Ask him to:

  1. Approve the APA recommendation, and
  2. Call on his Department of Environmental Conservation to provide a management plan for the expanded High Peaks Wilderness, including the Boreas Ponds, that prioritizes natural resource protection, limits motorized uses within a mile of the Boreas Ponds, and honors the integrity of Wilderness and the Forest Preserve.
