Unit Management Plans

The Adirondack Council works on many issues ranging from acid rain to zebra mussels.



The DEC has announced the initiation of several unit management plans. The following is a list of Forest Preserve areas that are currently being examined. To find out more and how and where you can comment on the plans visit www.dec.state.ny.us/website/dlf/publands/ump/index.html#table .

Bog River Complex - located in Franklin, Hamilton, and St. Lawrence Counties - Status: completed

Blue Mountain Lake Wild Forest - located in Hamilton County - Status: planning underway at DEC

Blue Ridge Wilderness and Wakely Mountain Primitive Areas - located in Hamilton county - Status: planning underway at DEC

Chazy Highlands Complex - located in Franklin and Clinton Counties - Status: planning underway at DEC

Debar Mountain Wild Forest Area - located in Franklin County - Status: planning underway at DEC

Dix Mountain and Giant Mountain Wilderness Areas - located in Essex County - Status: completed

Ferris Lake Wild Forest - located in Fulton, Herkimer, and Hamilton Counties - Status: planning underway by DEC

Grasse River Unit

Hoffman Notch Wilderness - located in Essex County - Status: planning underway at DEC

Hudson River Gorge Primitive Area - located in Essex and Hamilton counties - Status: planning underway at DEC

Raquette Boreal Wild Forest - located in St. Lawrence County - Status: planning underway at DEC

Saranac Lake Wild Forest Area - located in Franklin and Essex counties - Status: planning underway at DEC
