KINGSTON – Assemblyman Kevin A. Cahill, D-Kingston, has been recognized by the Adirondack Council of New York for his leadership in protecting the Adirondack Park from the threats of invasive species, climate change and inappropriate all-terrain-vehicle usage.

The Adirondack Council joined the Sierra Club and New York League of Conservation Voters in applauding the Cahill's voting record and work on environmental issues. As a member of the New York State Assembly's Environmental Legislators Caucus, he had been previously named "Legislator of the Year" in the Environmental Voters' Guide. He also plans to join the Adirondack Caucus, a nonpartisan coalition of senators and Assembly members from across the state who celebrate Adirondack Park, promote clean water and air and want to bolster their local economies.

"The Adirondack Council is a demonstrated leader in preserving and beautifying the Adirondack Park and its surrounding region for all to enjoy," Cahill said in a news release. "It is an honor to receive this award, and I look forward to further collaboration with the organization to ensure that adequate staffing, funding and resources are dedicated to this park and every other across the state so that our rich ecological history will be protected and maintained for generations to come."

Founded in 1975, the Adirondack Council is the largest citizen environmental group in New York state. It concentrates its efforts to preserve the wildlife, trails, water resources and other unique characteristics of the six-million acre parcel of land in in Adirondack Park.

"The Adirondack Council thanks Assemblymember Cahill for his continued advocacy on environmental issues," Adirondack Council Executive Director William C. Janeway said in a news release. "His tireless work will help preserve the relationship between wild habitat and the communities for generations to come."
