ADIRONDACK COUNCIL

Defending the East's Greatest Wilderness

Acid Rain PSAs

The Adirondack Park is suffering the worst damage in the nation from acid rain. And because nearly all of the utility plant pollution that causes acid rain in the Adirondacks comes from outside the state, New Yorkers alone can do little to prevent the onslaught.

Natalie Merchant Lends Her Voice to Urge Congress
To Stop Acid Rain

As you know, acid rain is still poisoning lakes, forests, fish, birds and other wildlife throughout the Eastern United States. The Adirondack Park -- the largest park in the Continental US -- is suffering the worst damage of any area of the country. As a native New Yorker, award-winning singer-songwriter Natalie Merchant wants us all to do something about it. Natalie has completed two Public Service Annoucements (PSAs) for the Adirondack Council to spread the word about acid rain.

The message Natalie and the Adirondack Council want people to hear - Congress can solve the acid rain problem by placing new controls on Midwest electric power plants. That would allow the 700 critically acidified lakes and ponds in the Adirondack Park to recover. The first of the two 30-second PSAs asks people to call the Adirondack Council for more information. The second asks them to contact Congress directly and demand a solution. If you would like to listen to the new PSAs by Natalie Merchant, click on the links below.
