WILLSBORO, N.Y. The Adirondack
Council has established a partnership with Old Adirondack, Inc.,
environmentally friendly makers of natural cedar furniture.
Together, they are producing a folding Adirondack chair with
the Councils bold Forever Wild logo burned
into the backrest of each.
The chairs are now available
on the Adirondack Councils website at the
shop. A portion of the proceeds of each Forever Wild
logo chair sold will go to assist the Adirondack Councils
efforts to protect the wild character and ecological integrity
of the Adirondack Park.
This is a very exciting
partnership for us, said Adirondack Council Executive Director
Brian Houseal. Old Adirondack is a top-notch furniture
maker. The chairs are expertly hand-made by Adirondack craftsmen.
Because they are made from Eastern White Cedar from the region,
they are very light weight and are likely to last for more than
a decade outside without paint or stain. It is an outstanding,
authentic Adirondack product on which we are we are glad to place
our name.
We are extremely pleased
to be associated with the Adirondack Council says Steve Maselli,
President of Old Adirondack, Inc. The Council protects
the wild nature of the Park and supports responsible activities
of the wood products industries in the Park. Old Adirondack
strives to be exemplary not only by our environmental responsibility
but also by promoting the regional icon nature of our products.
Last year we received FSC Chain of Custody certification and
now we are in the process of obtaining certified cedar in order
to be able to offer locally made FSC certified Adirondack furniture!
Most of the time, we are
telling people to stand up and be heard, Houseal said.
This one time, well ask them to sit down and relax,
in an Old Adirondack chair.
Houseal noted that the Council
had incorporated an authentic Old Adirondack chair into its local
newspaper and magazine ads. Offering a special version for sale
seemed like a logical next step.
The first Adirondack chair
was created more than a century ago on the shores of Lake Champlain
in Essex County. It was first called the Westport Chair
in honor of the hamlet just south of Old Adirondacks headquarters,
said Houseal of the Adirondack Council. This is the real
article, made the same way they were first made in the 1880s.
The phrase Forever Wild is well known throughout
the Northeast as the guiding principle for the protection of
the magnificent public lands of the Adirondack Park, Houseal
said. Just as the Parks popularity has grown, so
has the publics recognition of the vital role played by
the Adirondack Council in safeguarding that protection.
We now have members in all 50 United States and four continents,
Houseal said. No matter where our members go, they want
something to remind them of the rugged beauty and small town
charm of the Adirondack Park. We expect this chair to be a very
popular choice.
This is the latest in a
long list of Forever Wild Partnerships we have created
with Adirondack businesses. Most of the others are camps, hotels
and retail outlets. Patrons receive information about the Adirondack
Council, while the Council urges its members to patronize the
businesses. We remind our members which businesses are enrolled
via newsletter articles and updates to our website.
Maselli explained, We feel
that by putting the Adirondack Council Logo and Link on our Home
Web page we separate ourselves from the many non-regional manufacturers
and importers of Adirondack Furniture. We hope by supporting
the Park and being an integral part of the fabric of the Park
we demonstrate to our customers and dealers that we are truly
the Authentic Adirondack furniture company. And besides, I live
in the Park and appreciate and depend on the efforts of the Council
to maintain the areas wildness. So if we can help promote
the Council thats great.
The Adirondack Councils
mission is to ensure the ecological integrity and wild character
of the Adirondack Park. Founded in 1975, the Council is a privately
funded not-for-profit organization with members in all 50 United
States. The Council carries out its missions through research,
education, advocacy and legal action.
