ALBANY, NY – The Adirondack Council today commended Gov. George E. Pataki’s choice of Leilani C. Ulrich of Old Forge to fill a long-standing vacancy on the Adirondack Park Agency’s board of commissioners.

“We feel that Lani Ulrich is a fine choice to fill the vacant seat on the APA board,” said Adirondack Council Executive Director Brian L. Houseal. “We are familiar with her work in regional planning, education and community development in the southwestern Adirondacks. She has been a leader in all three fields.

“Ms. Ulrich also has the respect and support of local government officials in the Old Forge/Inlet area,” said Houseal. “She has our respect and support as well.”

Ulrich is the executive director of Central Adirondack Partnership for the 21st Century, a not-for-profit regional planning organization based in Old Forge. She has also worked for the New York Planning Federation, the Conservation Fund, Herkimer Community College and Lynn University of Old Forge.

If confirmed by the Senate on Thursday (Aug. 12), Ulrich would fill the seat vacated by the retirement of James Frenette of Tupper Lake.

The Adirondack Council is the largest environmental organization focusing full time on Adirondack issues. The Council’s mission is to ensure the ecological integrity and wild character of the Adirondack Park.
