The Adirondack Council is looking
forward to holding our 2012 Forever Wild Day at Asgaard
Farm and Dairy, thanks to the generous support of our
hosts David Brunner and Rhonda Butler.
| Asgaard
Farm is the former home of renowned and controversial artist,
writer, adventurer, political activist and farmer Rockwell
Kent (1882-1971). Kent resided at the farm from the 1920s
until his death in 1971. Asgaard, "farm of the gods"
in Norse mythology, not only served as the inspiration for many
of Kent's paintings, but was also a working dairy farm. |

David
and Rhonda acquired the farm in 1988. After working several years
to restore the land and buildings, they put the farm back into
production in 2003. The family-owned and operated farm is set
on 1,500 acres of certified organic fields and second growth
forests in the foothills of the northeastern Adirondack Mountains,
just outside the hamlet of Au Sable Forks. |
The
farm produces award-winning cheeses from a boisterous herd of
Alpine and Nubian goats, free range eggs and broilers, pastured
pork raised on local grain and whey from the creamery, Chevon
(lean meat from young goats), and grass-fed beef from the registered
herd of Devons. Grains are grown for flour produced in a local
mill and as feed for the animals. Logs are harvested for a local
sawmill under American Tree Farm Certification.
Handmade caramels made with goats' milk-known as cajeta (a traditional
Mexican dessert) are produced in small batches and come in several
different flavors: vanilla bean, cinnamon, sea salt, espresso,
and maple, made with real Adirondack maple syrup. |

All-natural soap handcrafted
with goats' milk, which has a similar pH to our skin, produces
a gentle, moisturizing lather. All of the farm's soaps are made
with pure oils of coconut, palm, and olive. Scents include lavender,
lilac, balsam, honeysuckle, oatmeal and honey, lemongrass and
sage, rose, unscented, Farmer's Soap, (ultra-cleaning) and hiker's
bar (natural bug repellent).
Products are sold on the farm,
through the summer at local farmers markets, and through select
local food stores and restaurants. For more information visit
